Defining and Non-defining Relative Clauses Worksheet for Class 8 CBSE

Some relative clauses identify nouns. They tell us which person or thing is meant. In grammars these are called restrictive, defining or identifying relative clauses.

Other relative clauses simply tell us more about a person or thing that is already identified. They are called non-restrictive, non-defining or non-identifying relative clauses.

Non-defining relative clauses are usually separated by commas in writing.
