Negatives worksheet

Change the following affirmative sentences into negative sentences.

It is easy to make the negative form if the affirmative sentence contains an auxiliary verb –  you only have to put ‘not’ after the auxiliary verb.

1. I am working on my computer.

2. They are playing in the garden.

3. Susie is knitting a sweater.

4. Anu is playing with her cat.

5. He is waiting for the bus.

6. It is hot today.

7. Maria is a singer.

8. I am sure about it.

9. The children have gone to bed.

10. She will help you.

11. He is learning his lessons.

12. I have finished the job.

13. It is raining.

14. She has suffered a lot.

15. You must obey him.

Answers

1. I am not working on my computer.

2. They are not playing in the garden.

3. Susie is not knitting a sweater.

4. Anu is not playing with her cat.

5. He is not waiting for the bus.

6. It is not hot today.

7. Maria is not a singer.

8. I am not sure about it.

9. The children have not gone to bed.

10. She will not help you.

11. He is not learning his lessons.

12. I have not finished the job.

13. It is not raining.

14. She has not suffered much. (A lot is not common in negative sentences; instead we use much or many.)

15. You must not obey him.
