If Clauses Worksheet For Class 10 | Kerala SSLC English Grammar

A conditional sentence expresses a condition. There are three types of conditional sentences. They are

  • Type 1 conditional
  • Type 2 conditional
  • Type 3 conditional

In Type 1 conditional, we use a simple present tense in the if-clause and will / can / may + first form of the verb in the main clause.

  • If you start you, you will reach there by 10 o’clock.
  • If you read a lot, you will gain more knowledge.

In Type 2 conditional, we use a simple past tense in the if-clause and would / could / might + first form of the verb in the main clause.

  • If you started at six, you would reach there by 10 o’clock.
  • If you read a lot, you would gain more knowledge.

In Type 3 conditional, we use a past perfect tense in the if-clause and would / could / might + have + past participle in the main clause.

  • If you had started at six, you would have reached there by 10 o’clock.
  • If you had read a lot, you would have gained more knowledge.
