Underline the infinitive | Class 8 grammar worksheets
What are infinitives?
Infinitives are expressions like to work, to write, to go, to come and to sing.
Note that the ‘to’ that precedes the infinitive is not really a part of the infinitive. In fact, the infinitive can be used without ‘to’. For example, the infinitive is always used without ‘to’ after modal auxiliary verbs.
- He can swim. (NOT He can to swim.) Here ‘swim’ is an infinitive.
Infinitives are usually used with ‘to’ in other cases.
