Class 10 Letter Writing Samples | Informal Letter To A Friend

The most common salutation used in letters to one's family members is 'My Dear (name)' Note that in informal letters, we address people by their first names. Surnames are not used. Here is a sample informal letter.

Task

Your brother was caught cheating on a test. The news has caused a lot of distress to you. Write a letter to him expressing your concerns and explaining why such malpractices will ultimately ruin his life.

Here is a sample response.

Dear Appu

I am really disheartened to hear that you have been caught cheating on your physics exam. What happened to you my boy? I couldn't believe it when I heard this news from mom in the morning. She is equally distressed.

Mom told me that your grades started falling after moving to the new school. What is the matter? Do you have difficulty following the lectures? If that is the case, we can arrange a private tutor.

Remember, cheating will never take you far in life. The marks that you obtain in an exam have no value unless you understand the concepts. Also, by cheating on an exam, you are being unfair to other students who study hard to secure good marks. Worse still, if you were caught cheating on the board exam, you could be debarred for years. So, do not repeat this. Whatever problem you have, you can share with me.

Here is an informal letter to your brother who is in hospital.

Dear Vicky

I hope this letter finds you in the best of spirits,

When I visited you last week, you seemed a bit a depressed. Come on boy, you should thank God for giving you a fresh lease of life. I talked to your doctor this morning and he told me that you are now out of danger. You will have to remain in the hospital for a few more days but that is not something you should be concerned about. Don't forget that life is a mixture of joys and sorrows.

By the way, all of us have decided to celebrate your recovery. We will be throwing a small party the day you come back from hospital.
