Question 1: Choose the option which is closest in meaning to the sentence given below.

He was convinced that it would take at least fifty years before a few men would understand what he had accomplished; and he feared that even then his teachings would be misinterpreted and misapplied.

Question 2: Identify the grammatically correct and appropriate options.

Answer: Option (d)

Solution

Option (a) is not correct. It should be: As we approached the swamp, we could hear the frogs croaking. When two clauses are joined together by a participle, they both should have the same subject.

Option (b) is not correct: It should be: She put her car in the garage because she never leaves it out when the weather is bad.

Option (c) is not correct: It should be: In early colloquial villages, people had to depend on wood for fuel.

Question 3: Identify the grammatically correct and appropriate option.

Answer: Option (b)

Option (a) is not correct: Starting a sentence with because is not considered appropriate.

Option (c) is not correct. This should be: These sorts of things happen.

Option (d) is not correct: It should be: The dacoits attacked the village and every man, woman and child was put to death.

Question 4: Identify the grammatically correct and appropriate option.

Answer: Option (a)

Option (b) is not correct: Error of parallelism

Option (c) is not correct: It should be: I like an occasional cup of coffee because it lifts my mood.

Option (d) is not correct: It should be: Hold the rifle firmly against your shoulder, and then take careful aim. Error of parallelism.

Question 5. Identify the grammatically incorrect option.

Answer

Option (c) is the answer. It is not grammatically correct: It should be: The argument neither explains what went wrong nor how it should be put right.
