Though and but are conjunctions expressing similar ideas. Note that though or although is a subordinating conjunction whereas but is a coordinating conjunction. A subordinating conjunction connects a dependent clause to an independent clause. A coordinating conjunction connects two coordinate clauses of equal rank.
