Simple Sentence, Complex Sentence, Compound Sentence Worksheet For Class 8

State whether the following sentences are single, compound or complex.

A simple sentence has just one clause. That means it has just one subject and one finite verb.

A complex sentence has one main clause and one or more subordinate clauses. It is introduced by a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun.

Common examples of subordinating conjunctions and relative pronouns are: if, whether, because, as, since, when, before, after, while, until, though, although, even though, even if, unless, as if, as though, who, which, that, whose

A compound sentence has two or more coordinate clauses connected by a coordinating conjunction. Examples of coordinating conjunctions are: and, but, or, either…or, neither…nor, both…and

2. You are what you think.

3. She is neither intelligent nor hard working.

4. I want to know why you are angry with me.

5. I said Hi but she didn’t even look at me.

6. Where have you been all this while.

7. Sitting on a branch the monkey gibbered.

8. Knocking loudly at my door, he cried for help.

9. I know a woman who sells fresh vegetables online.

10. The farmer killed the hen that laid golden eggs.

11. She asked me if I was interested in that proposal.

12. If you are hungry, I will give you something to eat.
