Adjectives
An adjective is a word used to describe a noun. Adjectives give more information about the nouns modified by them. Examples are: kind, clever, cunning, smart, soft, pleasant, terrible, innocent, intelligent etc.
Study the examples given below.
She is a pretty woman. (Here the adjective pretty gives additional information about the noun woman.)
Joy is an ambitious guy. (Here the adjective ambitious gives additional information about the noun guy.)
Adjectives usually go before the nouns modified by them. Examples are: kind boy, pretty girl, cunning fox, dangerous animals, pleasant morning, huge rock etc.
Adjectives can also go after the noun be (is, am, are, was, were)
He is intelligent.
The night is dark.
Sabu is ambitious.
Silk is soft.
They were happy.
I am excited.
Adjectives can also go after copular verbs. Examples of copular verbs are: feel, become, turn, grow, look, seem
I felt happy.
She looked sad.
It seems difficult.
He grew old.
