Degrees of Comparison Worksheet for Class 6

English adjectives recognise three degrees – positive, comparative and superlative. Positive is the base form of the adjective. Examples are given below:

Positive / Comparative / Superlative

Tall / taller / tallest

Hot / hotter / hottest

Smart / smarter / smartest

Loud / Louder / loudest

As you can see, most adjectives form their comparative and superlative forms by adding -er and -est to the positive.

Long adjectives (adjectives of more than two syllables) form their comparative and superlative with more and most.

Careful / more careful / most careful

Brilliant / more brilliant / most brilliant

Intelligent / more intelligent / most intelligent
