Dear (Recipient name):
I am applying for a Ph.D. program in social studies this winter and I am writing to ask if you would be willing to write a letter of recommendation in support of my applications. I plan to specialize in rural management.
My interest in social work began during my graduate years and you were largely responsible for that. It was you who taught me how important social commitment was. I believe that by doing a doctorate program in rural management I will be able to equip myself with the skills and knowledge necessary for contributing towards the development of our rural areas.
I have included a summary of my academic qualifications and work experience to help you decide whether I am a deserving candidate. I plan to apply for autumn, 2012 and the applications are due in early January.
If you should decide to recommend me, I will send you a copy of my statement of purpose, my resume, a writing sample, and any other documents you might need to assess my eligibility for the program. If you have any questions, please contact me by phone at (555) 555-0100 or by e-mail at applicant@example.com.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
(Your name)
